Malawi VP fires press officer Kondwani Munthali
Malawi’s Vice President Khumbo Hastings Kachali has fired his Public Relations Officer, Kondwani Munthali.
Insiders told Nyasa Times that Munthali has been frozen on allegations that he was leaking information from President Joyce Banda ’s office to the media.But his close pals said he wasa victim of “character assassination” within the corridors of power.
Munthali, a prolific journalist and an award winning blogger, dumped the Nation newspaper to work as Kachali’s spokesperson less than a year ago.
When emailed for comment, Munthali did not respond. But when telephoned later, he only said “no comment”
Insiders said President Banda directed Kachali to fire Munthali whom she accused of being a traitor.
The last function Munthali attended, as Kachali’s PRO was when the Veep went to Karonga to donate some items to the flood victims.
Munthali, who also doubled as Veep’s Master of Ceremony both at party and government functions, was conspicuously absent at a recent PP rally held at Embangweni in Mzimba and instead Chimbizga Msimuko of MBC acted as Master of Ceremony.
