Malawi VP Kachali files nomination to run for MP

Malawi Vice President Khumbo Kachali has filed the nomination forms in the ruling People’s Party expressing interest to contest for Mzimba Southwest constituency, the party has confirmed.

Kachali was MP for Mzimba South-west but relinquished the seat after he ascended to the office of the vice-president.

The seat is currently under PP’s only elected lawmaker Raymond Chatima Nkhata who won it during by-elections.

But Kachali wants the seat back.

Malawi VP Kachali: Eyes parliamentary seat

PP deputy secretary general and acting provisional chairman for the north, Frank Mwenefumbo confirmed on Thursday.

“Yes the Vice President has paid K50, 000 fee to contests or the Mzimba southwest seat,” said Mwenefumbo.

There was no comment from Kachali whose future as the country’s vice president looks hazy as the fate of him being picked as running mate in presidential ballot rests with President Joyce Banda.

President Banda is reportedly mulling over who she can pick as her running mate and Kachali amongst her choices.
