Peter Mutharika donates to Muslims on Eid

Ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential hopeful Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika joined Muslims in the country as they marked the end of month-long Ramadan (fasting) and donated assorted items to Muslims in districts of Salima, Mchinji, Mangochi and Thyolo.

Some of the items donated are bags of rice, cooking oil, sugar, soap, lotion and cash.

Speaking to crowds that gathered in Namwela, Mangochi the backyard of Muslims, Mutharika who is younger brother of President Bingu wa Mutharika, congratulated all Malawians of the Islamic faith who have successfully completed the month-long fast.

“I feel greatly indebted to do what am doing today. We are all Malawians whether Christians or Muslims, there is therefore need that we are  together in celebrations and in times of morning,” said Mutharika.

Mutharika joined the Moslem faithful in the pious hope and expectation that God Almighty will grant the prayers of Malawians during Ramadan for the continued peace, well-being and progress of the nation.

“Am overwhelmed by the turn up here, and I promise to come back as together we can,” he said.

In his remarks, Senior Chief Jalasi thanked Mutharika for the good gesture and could not hide his excitement by hugging the Professor “as a man everyone has trusted.”

He said: “When people mentioned your name others thought because you are related to the president, but former president Bakili  Muluzi had his brothers too so did Kamuzu Banda they were never considered. It is this spirit you have shown today that people are in love with.”

Chief Jalasi further said: “If anyone thought Mangochi is theirs they better think twice as we are the ones who stays with these people. We have no doubt whatsoever that when you get to the high office our relationship shall continue. We promise to hold special prayers for you.”

And in Mchinji Sheik Omar Imran was over the moon, he said: “We didn’t know what to do as we break the fast. Here is a man who without being asked has done such a donation. We will pay him back for the good work.”

Mutharika urged all Muslim faithful in the country to take advantage of the 30 days of spiritual exercise and the lessons thereof, to imbibe the true Islamic teachings which include charity and compassion for fellow human beings.

   This guy is going to tarnish the image of our beautiful religion. Should this continue and should we Muslims keep tolerating, accepting or keep saying “the donations are welcome”, know that you portraying the image that Muslims accept bribes!! Cz in all honesty, anything from the mutharika’s now to any given side, tribe or religion at the moment, is a donation of buying favors, popularity, etc… Plus remember, we of the Muslim community, and ofcz other religions too, dont depend on govt donations to keep our things moving. And who ever gives a donation, should not brag or go public about it to get recognition, so our religion teaches! Let’s not ignore when we know exactly why the guy is doing what he is doing. Be wise, knowledgeable and have fear in Allah (God)!! Like 0 Reply

   We as muslims will choose the leader that will help us with our religion and if they want to donate well and good we will vote for them wait and see we dont care about anything except our religion the Muthalics give you guys millions so leave us alone you fools Like 0 Reply

   gud gesture indeed, that’ the way to go. if prof Arthur donate 2 muslims you question his motive, if joyce donates you don’ question at all, please be more objective, this is malawi, politics literally mean “ndale”….as a matter of fact muslims will never join hands or show solidarity with northerners by voting out DPP, the memories of burning mosques in 1999 are still fresh in the minds of moslems Like 2 Reply

   You are talking like a stupid person, every stupid guy can be wooed easily. This is not time to point fingers. Its time to be united regardless of what religion you are. Otherwise you might think you are doing Malawi a favor when you are doing exactly the opposite. Like 0 Reply
