UDF Governor claims DPP bankrolling its members

United Democratic Front (UDF) Regional Governor for the north Kajiso Gondwe has alleged that the ruling DPP is funding some of the party’s top brass in order to destabilize it ahead of the 2014 general elections.
But DPP Secretary General Wakuda Kamanga has laughed off the allegations saying they do not make sense.
Speaking to Nyasa Times , Gondwe said the party has found cheques paid to some senior UDF members whom he further claimed were DPP plants trying to block Atupele Muluzi’s candidature for presidency.
However, Gondwe did not show Nyasa Times the said cheques or reveal the culprits.
Mpasu: Against Atupele candidature
“DPP is afraid of Atupele Muluzi because he is becoming a darling of the people,” he said.
Gondwe wondered why Sam Mpasu, Hophmally Makande and Ziliro Chibambo, who as ex-convicts cannot stand for any public position due to their criminal records, were clinging to party positions and trying to thwart the party’s restructuring efforts.
Convicts
On August 7, 2010 Mpasu was initially handed down a six year jail term which was later slashed to three years after the courts found him guilty on corruption charges in the famous Field York case.
And on 27 January, 2011 Ziliro Chibambo was sentenced to 1 year 4 months for abuse of office and uttering a false document when he was Malawi’s High Commissioner to Mozambique. The sentence was later suspended due to his ill health.
Chibambo had instructed his accounts assistant Joyce Mkhalipi to add fake names to the payroll in order to increase monthly salary. The total amount believed to have been embezzled through this scheme was USD 115, 193. 07.
And also on 9 November 200 Makande together with Kamlepo Kalua were convicted for making seditious remarks and inciting violence respectively.
“These people are barred by the constitution to run for any public office for seven years,” said Gondwe.
The regional governor said he finds no problem with Atupele Muluzi standing on the party’s ticket saying the young Muluzi is popular.
“And besides, UDF is a democratic party as such I find no reason why other people should be barred from contesting on the party ticket,” he said.

Yes, Atupele can not make a good president. I agree with all the people that are agianst this move. As much as Peter Mutharika can’t be elected as president and the same applies to Atupele Muluzi. Joyce Banda if she thionks merging with Atupele both of them will fail.
We need new names not Atupele, Peter may be Chimunthu Banda and joyce Banda joining one another.

ReplyLady Madeya. With due respect am not clever nor am I claiming to be one. The point benchmark is still dishonesty and moral turpitude. Learn to appreciate facts abjectively. Is Sedition involving dishonesty and moral turpitude? Was Makande not set free by the High Court? Is Makande therefore an exconvict? Answer these questions one by one. Then see if ur argument is factually correct and accurate. I rest my case.

ReplyUnless mr gondwe can prove the alleged bankrolling its just another cheap propaganda by the muluzi camp trying to potray atupele as a victim so that he can get sympathy vote like bingu did in 2008.
