Silver crowned Malawi football champions

Silver Strikers Football Club were on Saturday  crowned 20011/2012 TNM Superr League champions  after beating holders Escom United 1-0 in a coronation match played at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Rodrick Gonani scored the vital goal for the Bankers to take the silverware to the capital, Lilongwei n n one of the most exciting finishes to the football season in years.

It was all joy as  Silver chairman Dr Mafuta Mwale, technical panel, players and supporters  went into wild jubilation soon after referee whistled for the end of proceedings.

Silver Strikers care takercoach Hellings Mwakasungura told Nyasa Times: “It’s fantastic, we did our best.

“There’s a fantastic atmosphere at this club  and I think we deserved to win the Super Legaue.. We are very happy.”

Escom coach Charles Manda praised Silver’s efforts.

Manda said: “Silver deserve it.”

“I congratulate them,” he added.

Manda said his side would bounce back, adding: “We’re going to try and bring the title back to Blantyre.”

Mighty Wanderers who were also title hopefuls suffered a 2-1 loss to Moyale. The Nomads took a lead but tumbled in the second half.

Bullets beat Civo United 1-0  through a goal by Godfrey Masonda to wrap up the season on a good note.

Sorry jammie,lm from south and a Bullets fan l must apologise on behalf of those people who pretend like they are real soccer lovers whilst they aren’t ,they don’t know the means of soccer,how come they say that but most of teams are the mixture of players from all parts of Malawi?They know nothing about soccer just forgive them ,Soccer is peace we mustnt be racists thanks hope you forgive

    Jamie, sorry my Brother, forgive them for they don`t know what they are doing. Says the Lord. I am from the South and a staunch NOMADS Supporter, but I do congratulate Ma Bankers for winning the League. As Jamie is complaining, lets not use these forum to castigate each other but rather lest use sports as a unifying factor after politics has failed to united the once mighty Malawi. Once again, congratulations Silver for being 2011/12 Champions. You have made nzanga Chapotera wa ku Mchesi uko a very happy man. God bless you all.

As a Malawian living in diaspora,from central Malawi,Lilongwe in particular im hugely disturbed and annoyed by comments that some idiots post on this website to say people from central region ‘satha Mpira’. I cant understand where this point is driving to..Malawi is one country and statements of this nature are the reason there are conflicts in other African countries.Without going into nitty details, please refrain from such ridiculous nosense.
