Presidential aspirant Atupele Austin Muluzi was stopped by Police  from addressing thousands of supporters when he arrived to a hero’s welcome in the administrative capital, Lilongwe ahead of Parliament sitting.

Atupele, the Machinga North East UDF parliamentarian and  its deputy leader in the House, was  travelling in an open white Mercedes Benz and travelled close to the 50-car convoy when police stopped him from addressing crowds at around 5pm.

The young Muluzi, dressed in a black suit, white shirt and black striped yellow tie, waved at the UDF supporters and well wishers.

Thousands upon thousands turned to see ever smiling Atupele when he travelled the 350 kilometers by road from Blantyre, the commercial capital in the south to Lilongwe in central Malawi.

“I have never seen such a crowd welcoming a member of parliament. Thousands of people showed up to see the presidential aspirant Atupele,” said Fatima Daudi, who claims to be a member of MCP.

Most of the people waved UDF cloth, while many others carried portraits of Atupele, 33.

Mwanayu ngwathu  [he is a son of the soil],” said Lyton Mbango , pointing out that Atupele is a son of Lilongwe the home village of her mother.

Tens of singing men and women were chanting and singing songs of happiness and encouragement to Atupele to contest for presidency in 2014.

Meanwhile, the party’s secretary general Kennedy Makwangwala said Atupele’s road show rolls in central region this Sunday starting with Mchinji.

Atupele returns to parliament on Monday.
