Malawi’s the only foreign based netballer Mwawi ‘Professor’ Kumwenda is set to return to Australia over the weekend for her second season with Peninsula Waves after her visa was processed on Thursday, Nyasa Times learnt.
The 22-year-old netball superstar had a successful first season at Waves, which prompted Coach Robin Pym to seek more of her services.
“I am very excited that my visa is out. I will be leaving for Australia any day this weekend because anything about my trip is set. I thank God and l do not take this for granted,” Kumwenda told Nyasa Times.
Kumwenda said her aim is to put Malawi on the World map as far as netball is concerned.
Her teammates already started training and she delayed because of her visa was not processed.
Kumwenda has been undergoing her own training at Blantyre Youth Centre in order to keep herself in shape.
“I am ready to bounce back onto the field of play once l am in Australia,” she said.
“I feel l will have no difficulties because while on holiday l have been playing for my former club Escom Sisters,” said Kumwenda, who was also involved in charity work during her off season.
Kumwenda became the first Malawian netballer to be exported to Australia on February 11 2011.
During her first season, Kumwenda was voted Waves best player of the season and was also selected in the Victorian National League all star select team.
The towering shooter says this time around she wants to pursue both her netball career and education
Peninsula Waves identified Kumwenda during the 2009 World Youth Championships in Cooks Island where she was voted the best player of the tournament.

Reply“This time around she wants to pursue both netball and education,” that is the way to go my sister because netball alone has a short life span but if you combine with education the better. With education you can stand tall and point a finger at fools like Bingu because after all you do not need his favour to be employed since you are an international material where only MERIT counts and not where you come from. Wish you all the best superstar.

ReplyWe are proud of you Mwayi. We wish you success as you put Malawi on the map. Indeed MALAWI’s biggest resource are its people. If more Malawians are trained in various fields and export them the country can earn a lot of foreign exchange.
