Catholic bishops meeting in Lilongwe last week told off government representatives Nicholas Dausi and Ephraim Chiume, both cabinet ministers and Catholics, to stop bothering the church with cheap politics.

President Bingu wa Mutharika sent the two to register government’s concern to the bishops that one of their priests, Father Piergiorgio Gamba of Montfort media wanted to “topple government” through his publications the Lamp Magazine, Together Magazine and Mkwaso newspaper.

The three publications have been carrying hard hitting and critical stories against the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government.

Dausi: Rebuffed

But the bishops, who were holding their annual plenary meeting in Lilongwe, told the two off and told them to bring real issues next time.

“Dausi and Chiume met the bishops on 27 January at Msamba, the venue of the bishops’ meeting. They said they were sent by the president to plead with the bishops to talk to Fr. Gamba to slow down,” Nyasa Times source said.

“They said the president was begging for mercy and asked the church to treat him as their member,” added the source.

Dausi and Chiume left with nothing concrete to report to their boss,  a turn-coat Catholic.

“They were told that the bishops could not waste their time discussing unfounded issues,” the source said.

Both Dausi and Chiume refused to comment on the matter.

The bishops meeting started on 24 January through 27 January. President of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi Bishop Joseph Zuza chaired the meeting.

Mutharika accused head of ECM, His Grace Bishop Joseph Zuza last year of referring him to as the most foolish person – Chindere Chakufikapo- through his sermon.

  1. It was good for the bishops to send the 2 out….that was senseless indeed for the 2 cabinet minister to come to such a meeting with issues that are stupid. What is written in the 3 magazines is good if the president is being threatened with it then he shld change his idologies that is not helping our country

  2. Father Gamba take this man Dausi to court and he should pay for whatever the court will judge. He is not a judge to find you guilty of ‘ trying to topple government’.

IT IS IRRIVERSIBLEEE. tidzaonana 2014 sikutali mphwanga.
