There was drama at Area 18 Health Centre in Lilongwe on Thursday morning when angry patients crushed with the doctors accusing them of reporting to work late a move which forced the hospital authorities to temporarily put down tools.
An eye witness told Nyasa Times reporter that the doctors had not reported to work in time and fainting of one of the children, who was brought to receive treatment at the hospital, angered the patients waiting to receive treatment.
The doctors ordered all the patients to leave the premises by either going to Bwaila or Kamuzu Central Hospitals.
When Nyasa Times visited the hospital, things had turned back to normal and one Doctor a Mr. Masiyano had returned to work. He was seen busy doing consultations with the patient.
Relevant staff members refused to comment anything but one junior worker faulted the patients for overreacting on the matter.
“We don’t have enough doctors here but the number of patients is always high so it is hard for the doctors to work effectively,” said the source.
Workers in the health sector have at a number of times being accused of ill-treating patients, negligence and being harsh to patients.
This has resulted into a number of deaths which could have been prevented.

ReplyPeople which ever way this goes stp taking advantage of the economical problems such as fuel as an excuse for late coming from the healthy assistant point of view and shouting at these medical workers from the patient’s view point. Look now the blame is being shifted to the president instead of the Minister of health or even the lilongwe medical boss in-charge of such clinics.
It’s high time that the government start educating people and workers on the dangers of negligence at work place as well as on how to handle conflicts from patience or even clients. We are all Malawians despite being a patient or a doctor. We need to support one another for the healthy Malawi at large.

ReplyArea 18 clinic has only 3 clinicians and see about 500 people or more on daily basis. And one of the 3 work at night. Meaning just two people see all the people
