Malawian father commits suicide shortly after killing son
A 35-year-old Malawian man from the central region district of Dowa, Sunday night committed suicide minutes after he strangulated his 15-year-old biological son, police have confirmed.
According to police report, the man, Mdaka Magaisa Elisa, took his life and that of his son after picking a quarrel with his wife.
Dowa Police Station spokesperson Richard Kaponda said the deceased strangled his son, Madalitso, with a rope before hanging himself a few minutes later.
News is that in December last year, late Elisa caught his wife red handed having sexual intercourse with his brother.
The two then separated and the wife went ahead to get married to late Elisa’s adulterous brother and the new couple left to live in a distant village.
“Elisa stayed behind with his son but the circumstances compelled him to commit suicide. It is alleged that he did not want to leave his son alone for fear of suffering since his mother had already left home,” Kaponda is quoted by Malawi News Agency (MANA),
A postmortem conducted at Mwangala Health Centre by clinicians from Dowa District Hospital revealed that Madalitso died of strangulation and so did his father.
Both deceased persons hailed from Sosola Village, Traditional Authority Msakambewa in the district.
