Malawian footballer attacked in South Africa: Micium Mhone for Jomo Cosmos escapes death

Flames international midfielder Micium Mhone had a brush with death on Saturday in Johannesburg, South Africa after six thugs attacked him.

Micium Mhone: Survived the attack

Mhone confirmed the sad news in an interview from his base in South Africa with Nyasa Times.

The former Blue Eagles star who now plays for South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Jomo Cosmos said during the attack, he was stabbed on the hand but a person he was with was seriously
injured.

“The incident happened around 6pm along the end street. They stabbed me on the hand but my colleague is the one who was severely injured. We went to hospital and received treatment and I am feeling much better now,” Mhone told Nyasa Times.

“I just thank God I survived because I could have been dead by now,” he added.

The thugs robbed him cash amounting to R3000 and his Samsung s7 mobile phone handset.

This is not the first time for a footballer to be attacked in South Africa following another attack on Zimbabwean talisman Khama Biliat recently.

Robbers again attacked and killed Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Mayiwa in 2014.
