Malawian group to flush out  bogus estate agents

Central Region Association of Real Estate Agents is geared to flush out all bogus agents operating in Lilongwe.

The body’s Chairman Fred Kapito was speaking on in Lilongwe he mduring eeting the association had with its members ion Fruday.

The city’s residents have, for a long time been losing money when dealing with bogus estate agents a development which was condemned by government recently.

“People have been losing trust in us because they have been cheated by some people claiming to be estate agents when actually they are not registered with us or government. So in order to bring back that trust, we decided to have this meeting to see how best we can flush these dissidents out,” said Kapito who is also a manager for Fred and Ted Properties.

Among other things, bogus agents have been charging a viewing fee of about K3000 even though the client is not interested with the property or charging extra 10 percent commission.

Kapito said they are currently compiling the names of all agents an dthat they will provide Identity Cards to the accredited.

“We are also going to work hand in hand with law enforcers to bring to book all bogus agents,” he said.
