Malawian lady in COMESA Elders Committee

Former Central Bank Governor Mary Nkosi has been appointed a member of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) into its four member committee of Elders.

The news about Nkosi appointment was made public by the Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs George Nkondiwa through a communiqué on President Joyce Banda’s recent trips to Kenya and Nigeria.

“Malawi was honored at the Comesa Summit with the election of Mrs. Mary Catherine Nkosi former Deputy Governor of RBM, as one of the four new members of the Comesa committee of elders,” Nkondiwa said.

Chaired by the DRC President the 19-member body is the largest regional economic organization in Africa.

The member states include Malawi, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Kenya, Burundi, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Libya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Sudan, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Nkosi will serve in that capacity for a period of four years.
