Malawian man defiles a toddler, demands medical check-up

In a dramatic turn of events, a suspect in a defilement case this week brought the case at Blantyre Magistrates Court to a halt after he demanded for medical check-up on him to justify that he, indeed, was the one who committed the crime.

The man Clement Chiwaya 21 years old took the court by surprise when he hit-back at the police for arresting him without conclusive  evidence.

Chiwaya currently on remand at Chichiri prison and hails from Mpagaja village T/A Somba in Blantyre, was charged with defilement, an offense he denied.

He is accused of defiling a two and half year old girl (name withheld) in Nancholi Blantyre on September 30th this year.

In his argument during trial, Chiwaya asked the court allow the law enforcers to take him for medical check-up at any approved hospital for justification that he really defiled the girl.

It was of no surprise when the court bowed to his demands and ordered the police to take him for the medical test.

And medical report from Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) tendered in court indicates that the girl was defiled.

The case has since been adjourned to November 8th for further hearing.

Chiwaya was arrested on October 3, 2012 after the girl’s mother, Sarah Somanje reported the incident to police after she got suspicious of the defilement.
