Malawian Pastor arrested for impersonating police officer in Mzuzu
Malawi Police in Mzuzu have arrested a 35 years old Pastor for being suspected to have impersonating as a senior police officer at Mzuzu Police Station.
Pastor Charles Gonani ,35 from Kadawere village in the area of Traditional Authority Lundu in Blantyre and was ministering at Thamanda Pentecostal Church at Masasa in Mzuzu.
He was allegedly found in possession with different police materials such as uniform and wireless message gadget.
“It is true that we have arrested the Mzuzu based Pastor on allegations that he has been impersonating himself as a man in uniform,” police source sai.
They said the man of God has been receiving money from the job seekers with the fact that he will help them to be recruited in the Malawi Police Service (MPS).
“For instance, we have found the document that he received K25, 000 from Akim Phiri as a token to assist him to join the 2016 MPS training,” disclosed our source.
Some of his congregations told this reporter that the suspect was married to Loveness Manda in May this year and that his wife knew him as a man of God as well as a high ranking detective.
It is also reported that the suspect denied his wife to report to his authorities at the station when he was critically ill for some days, saying “our marriage is not legitimate therefore I may be dismissed if they know according to our duty’s laws.”
When contacted, Northern region Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya said he has been out of the office for almost week.
According to our source, the suspect is expected to appear before the court soon where he will answer charges.
