Malawian student shine in Kenya’s talent contest, crowned Samsung Ziki Star

A 21-year-old Malawian student at Daystar University in Kenya, was crowned the winner of the second edition of the Samsung Zikistars talent search contest.

Daniel Chikhwaza trounced six other finalists at an event at the Skyluxx Lounge, Westlands.

The second year Communications and Electronic Media degree student was lost of words, as he was declared the winner after rigorous rounds of ‘battle of the wits’ between the other six.

“I don’t know what to say. I am very excited to win such an accolade, far from home. I was not expecting it owing to the level of competitiveness present, but it’s really an honour,” Chikhwaza is quoted by The Star.

Apart from other goodies, Chikhwaza grabbed the ultimate prize – a recording deal for a single and a video with the sensational R&B, dancehall crooner and Samsung Zikistar brand ambassador, Wyre.

According to Samsung Business Corporate Marketing leader Patricia King’ori, the contest’s main aim is to realise and give a chance for the young music talents to grow.
