Malawian’s house torched in South Africa Xenophobic attack : Elubey Mwale left homeless in J’burg

Malawian national Elubey Mwale has her home torched in Rosettenville, southern Johannesburg, as the xenophobic attacks resurfaces in the South Africa, according to a report on a South African TV channel eNCA.

Mwale: My house was torched for no reason

Mwale is one of several residents left homeless after community members allegedly set their homes on fire in a wave of violent protests in the area over alleged  drugs and prostitution that has resulted in more than 10 houses believed to be drug dens being torched.

“I have nowhere to go, I have got a kid and on Saturday night I slept outside with the kid outside, no food no clothes who is going to help me,” a devastated Mwale told eNCA .

Mwale said had been caught in the crossfire between locals and foreigners.

“I am an innocent woman, these people are saying that this house belongs to Nigerians and I am not Nigerian,” said Mwale from her burnt house.

“I have been in this house for three years and I have not seen mistakes from here. Before they burn they must ask us if you are a Nigerian or where you coming from.

“I am Malawian, my husband is Malawian and all my sisters Malawian. I feel bad, I don’t know where to go. Some people whom I don’t know helped me with money to sleep at the lodge last night but what about today?”

Mwalen said she had lost everything she owned, including money and almost 80 pairs of shoes which were supposed to be exported to her homeland.

However one people commenting on this story on eNCA webisite,  wrote: “I am Malawian, my husband is Malawian” is it your house? Do this lady perhaps have proof of purchase for the so called house? Its very sad that these foreigners that they own houses while desperate SA citizen are struggling to get these houses. You get Housing officials in Yoeville working with Nigerians and Ghanaians in occupying them illegally.

Another one said this: “So hateful south Africans, I see you getting all fat with hate, You should travel, Go to Nigeria, Malawi, Zambia etc and see how cape people are treated you will be sorry, I am a south African and I think our country is disgusting, its a shame that you feel all white when your just Bantu crap, Not all foreigners come to south Africa with nothing, people open business here and in return they offer jobs to your hateful souls, who are you without rest Africa really, Just buch of illiterate drunkards.”

Look, you have good and you have bad among all nationalities. Nigerian criminality
only feature prominently because one in every 5 blacks walking on this planet is
a Nigerian. Other people commit crime too. Some South Africans might also be
reacting out of envy and jealousy of Nigerian success in SA.
