Malawians urged to participate more in tourism business –Katopola

The director of tourism, Isaac Katopola says Malawian should participate more in promoting tourism.

He said this at the opening of Shire Lodge in Liwonde, Machinga.

Katopola said in an interview that Liwonde has a lot of tourist attraction features like the Liwonde National Park and the mighty Shire River.

Katopola encouraged Malawians to initiate in appreciating their own magnificent tourist attraction,

“It is hard to promote tourism when the fellow Malawians are not participating,” said Katopola.

Katopola called on indigenous Malawians to venture into tourism business and “generate more forex.”

Shire Lodge is owned Siku Transporters whose directors are Malawians of Asian origin.

Katopola also acknowledge that most Malawian do not visit tourism destinations because of financial difficulties. However he said this limitation can be managed.

“We just have to plan, save money from the beginning of the year to visit these places in the summer, said the director of tourism.

He also said that Malawian should be flexible and think outside the box when choosing careers.

Katopola appealed to Malawians to consider to study in course of hospitality industry.
