Malawi’s GOtv Netball Challenge returns next week

Malawi first ever prestigious GOtv Netball Champions League is set to return to action next week at Blantyre Youth Centre in the third round of the tournament.

The championship’s leaders Escom Sisters date MTL Queens while much improved Blue Eagles Sisters will entertain Bingu Tigresses in high profile games.

Other potentially explosive fixtures will see Escom Sisters clashing with Tigresses while MTL Queens will square up with Blue Eagles Sisters.

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary Carol Bapu said competition would finish on August 4 in Lilongwe at Don Bosco Netball Court.

“We are remaining with the last two rounds of the scheduled four. Blantyre will host the third round next week before Lilongwe hosts the final round early August,” she said.

“We ask the netball fraternity to continue gracing the matches in large numbers as they have been doing in the past.”

Sponsors, Multichoice Malawi, have agreed with Nam that teams should not go for one week break as earlier arranged for the competition to finish on schedule.

In a statement, GOtv has announced that Don Bosco netball court will host the final round and the first games would be played on August 2 before concluding the competition the next day.

“For us to make the final games exciting, please note that there will be no prearranged fixtures.  The draws will be conducted on 2nd August 2013 and all teams are requested to be at Don Bosco Netball Court at 8.00am,” read part of the statement.

The K8 million competition has drawn top five teams in the country; Escom Sisters, MTL Queens, Bingu Tigresses, Civonets and Blue Eagles Sisters.

The first two rounds were played in Blantyre and Lilongwe before for recess after  players from the participating teams were engaged with national duties in the Africa Netball Championship which Malawi hosted at Blantyre Youth Centre from July 24 -28.

MultiChoice Malawi Marketing Manager said the competition would offer surprise prizes to spice up the competition.

Civo        vs     Escom Sisters  10.00 am

Bingu Tigresses        vs     MTL Queens   11.30 am
