Malawi’s Kanyenda narrowly escapes death in horrific car crash in SA

Malawi national team veteran striker Esau Kanyenda on Sunday narrowly escaped death  in fatal accident that occurred in South Africa where four of his Polokwane F.C team are reported to have been killed.

According to information on South Africa’s online media outlets, the accident happened as the team were returning from a football match against FC AK played at Turflop Stadium in Limpopo.

Kickoff has quoted unnamed source that “there could be more casualties as some players have (were) taken to hospital”.

Kanyenda’s closest friends in Malawi, Kenneth Mbewe and Arkangel Tembo, said they talked to Malawian striker  immediately after receiving the news and that he was at the hospital receiving treatment.

Kanyenda: Stable

“I have spoken to Kanyenda. He complained of bruises but he assured me that he was in a stable condition,” said Mbewe.

Tembo also told Nyasa Times that he spoke to Kanyenda  and that he was out of danger.

“The is no cause for alarm,” Tembo, a sport journalist with Malawi News Agency said.

Kanyenda signed a two year deal with Polokwane formally called Bay United.
