Malawi’s Mwawi in Australia all star netball squad

Malawi Queens shooter Mwawi Kumwenda has capped a memorable season for Peninsula Waves by making it into an all start Victory Fury select side that features top players from the Australia’s Victoria Netball League.

The South West team is currently on tour playing with other top sides in Australia’s other states.

Mwawi’s manager Hlupikire Phiri said it was a memorable feat for the shooter to be included in the star studded squad.

“Waves are on off-season and she is playing for Victoria Fury in a top league. In other words she is a level up,” she said.

Mwawi said she was excited to be selected into Victoria Fury having had a successful season at Waves where she guided the side to finish second in the Victoria Netball League.

“It has been an impressive season for me. At Waves we have made huge strides and I am now enjoying my game at select side [Victoria Fury]. I have featured in all the 10 games and we are expected to play the finals next week,” she said.

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary Carol Bapu said the development showed that Mwawi was among the best players in her league.

“We are yet to get that information as Nam. But from what I have gathered the team [Victoria Fury] features the cream of players from their league. This shows that Mwawi is among outstanding players from the league,” she said.
