Malawi’s Papa thrilled to open scoring accout at Platinum in South Africa PSL

Malawi international up and coming midfielder Gerald ‘Papa’ Phiri Jnr  on Saturday   impressed when he opened his scoring account with South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) outfit when they won 3-0 against  Bloemfontein Celtic which is coached by Malawian John Maduka.

The Malawian midfielder, formerly of Be Forward Mighty Wanderers,  scored a brace as continues to get used to life with his new side. He is on laon from Bidvest Wits.

According to KickOff, Phiri  scored two quick goals from free kicks to give his side a half time lead at Dr Molemela Stadium.

The 23 year olf Malawian combination play with the Platinum stars became a recurring theme during the game.

His first goal  was a free-kick inside the first six minutes as he beat Patrick Tignyemb in the home goal.

And lightning struck twice just three minutes later when the Malawian international produced a carbon copy to give his side a 2-0 advantage and to the emphatic victory .

Phiri Jnr was then substituted with 11 minutes to play after sustaining an injury but that was not enough to stop him from collecting the man of the match award.

Papa  said he was delighted to finally get off the mark.

“It was a great team performance and I’m just happy to have opened my scoring account and hopefully I can continue,” said Papa.

The Malawian midfielder joined Platinum Stars on a six month loan deal after failing to secure a place in Gavin Hunt’s squad.
