Msaka: Tough laws in place

Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining, Bright Msaka said persistent flash floods amongst other natural disasters can only be curbed, if environmental conservation activities in all learning institutions and communities are intensified.

He said a number of initiatives are being championed by the government to conserve the environment including its collaborative efforts and ties with International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF) which is at the moment revamping Vwaza Marsh in the Northern Region through the Vwaza Conservation Project.

The minister said government has put in place tough laws to curb wildlife poaching for ivory, hides (animal skins) and other raw materials as another way of conserving the environment.

According to Msaka, almost 90 percent of the country’s forex earnings can be realized from the environmental; tourism and hospitality sector which can also replace tobacco which is the current forex earner for the country.
