Man caged five years for sexual assault on girl, 13

The Blantyre Maigistates Court has sentenced to five years Lyson Masangwi 30 years old for defiling a 13 year- old girl in Mbayani Township, Blantyre between August and September this year.

Masangwi, who has been on remand at Chichiri prison since his arrest last month, is said to have defiled the girl on several occasions after threatened to kill or reported her to police if she dared to reveal the incident.

The girl (name withheld) a standard 5 pupil at Mbayani Primary School is currently four months pregnant.

According to police report tendered in court, it was on September 9th when the girl’s parents got suspicious after noting some changes on her body.

“The parents deiced to take her for medical examination at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) where she was tested four months pregnant,” reads the report.

In his defence, Masangwi despite conceded to have had sex with the girl on several occasions told the court they were in love relationship.

But the girl’s mother, Florence Majidu in her testimony told the court she was not aware of the alleged relationship and that all she knew was that Masangwi was once their neighbor.

Majidu told the court that her daughter was afraid to reveal about the defilement because of Masangwi’s threats.

Masangwi hails from Mbwalela village T/A Nsabwe in Thyolo district.
