Maskal to perform in Johannesburg

Two months after his UK tour, Malawi’s Afro-R&B singer, Maskal, will next week leave the country for South Africa where he is scheduled to have three shows in Johannesburg.

The ‘Zili ndi Iwe’ singer is slated to perform at Khoisan Lounge, Tijuka Bruma and De Equater on 4th, 6th and 7th April, respectively.

Maskal’s manager, Kimpho Loka, said the artist is expected to share stage in all the three shows with his compatriots Symon and Kendall of the ‘Nyemba Nyemba’ fame as well as Born Afrikan, a South Africa-based Malawian artist.

Loka further indicated that Maskal’s trip to SA has been facilitated by Jizammy Lingani, another Malawian-born artist currently residing in Johannesburg.

Maskal is expected to leave Malawi for South Africa on Sunday, 30th March, and according to his manager, during the three shows, Maskal will be backed by a Joburg band called Jam Rock Band.

“Jam Rock Band has been practicing Maskal’s music for about three weeks now and when I checked with Jizammy, the rehearsal is going on well and Maskal will have one or two sessions with the band when we get to Joburg next week, ahead of the shows,” said Loka.

The trip to South Africa will be Maskal’s second in five months after his last performance in Cape Town in October 2013.
