Maskal to release new single at Birmingham show

Malawi’s Afro-R&B singer Maskal left the country Thursday evening for the United Kingdom where he is billed to perform starting on Saturday.

Initially, the Blantyre-based musician was supposed to leave Wednesday but his flight was changed to Thursday.

Maskal, aka SingJay, is scheduled to have first shos in Birmingham this Saturday, November 30 and the following weekend, December 7 in Glasgow, respectively.

Maskal said he was excited by the trip.

Maskal: To launch single in UK

“I have been looking forward to this trip. I can’t wait to have my first concert come Saturday,” he said.

Added the ‘Zili ndi iwe’ singer: “I’m set and to all my fans in the UK, the moment we have been waiting for is finally here. I can’t wait to be there.”

Maskal said this was a new chapter not only in his music career but the Malawi music industry as a whole.

While in the UK, the singer is expected to release a new single as well as do a music video.

According to the organizers of the two concerts, Maskal will share the stage with other Malawian as well as Nigerian artists based in the UK.

Some of them include Pop Dogg, King Lexy, Metamore and Hazel Mak.

Maskal’s trip to the UK comes few weeks after he performed in Cape Town, South Africa.

The singer, who has two albums to his credit, ‘Nthawi’ (2010) and ‘Umunthu’ (2012), is expected to perform songs from both albums. Some of his popular tracks include ‘Udalire’, ‘Ndiwe wanga’, ‘Chikondi’, ‘Usatope’ and ‘Zili ndi iwe’.
