The magistrate court in Mzuzu has denied bail to Chibanja ward councillor who is accused of making three girls drunk and defiling each one of them.
The senior resident magistrate Meja Mbewe said the ward councillor, Charles Mlogera (Malawi Congress Party) needed to be in police custody to protect him from an irate mob and relatives who were baying for his blood.
But defense lawyer Diverson Kadziphatike said Mlogera had a respectable and outstanding job in his community where he lives therefore he would not run away given bail.
Mlogera is said to have made the three girls drunk beer at a drinking joint before booking a room at a lodge where he managed to defile each one of the girl; two aged 16 and one aged 15.
The court heard that the girls found a drunk man at Chibanja who slept in a road drainage.
The girls then stopped the councillor as he was driving past the place to carry the drunk.
As he was leaving, the ward councillor took a mobile phone number of one of the girls and in the evening, he called her and came with the other two girls to meet Mlogera.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
