Mia factor hits Lower Shire: Scores join MCP, PP governor leads exodus

After supporters of opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) asked former minister Sidik Mia to join the party, a lot of pary leaders in in the Lower Shire districts of Nsanje and Chikwawa are defecting to MCP citing leadership failures in their respective parties.

The supporters says they are joing MCP also to give solidarity to the Lower Shire political giant, Mia, so that he should  consider getting back to the front line politics through Lazarous Chakwera’s led party.

Mia is said to be engaging people on one-on-one to consult them on the calls to join MCP.

According to Mia, he would only be motivated to return to frontline politics if he will be given space to contribute to  promoting“ people-driven policies”.

Meanwhile, in Chikwawa 23 committees of former ruling Peoples Party (PP) defected to MCP led by District Governor Philemon Thom.

They announced their defection on Wednesday at Ngabu in Chikwawa in the presence of MCP’s Regional Executive committee.

Thom said he decided to leave PP due to lack of leadership as their founder is nowhere to be seen.

MCP Regional Chairperson for the south, Peter Simbi welcomed the new members asking them to display their capacities in supporting the party.

Despite this development, MCP is also currently facing serious leadership wrangles with a lot of in-house fighting taking place in the party.

A number of executive members were suspended from the party and the battles have now moved to the courts.

There was no immediate response from PP’s leadership on the defections.

MCP will win the next elections not because the lower shire has opened up to the party but because as a nation we are fed up with the level of cluelessness by APM and his DPP. Tell me if we has a functional presidency in this country. Tell me if this man was prepared for the top most job of the land. If you ask me I will tell you clearly that given what we are seeing now this country is almost on auto pirot. Each day that I God give us as Malawi we continue to waste it. The… Read more »

So you are waiting for a state president to teach you spelling? Develop yourself first before expecting a distant figure like a state president to develop you. Look at the tones of spelling mistakes in a couple of lines you have posted. Shame.

Nthawi ya Gwanda anthu anali asanazindikire, multi party asanapange mature pano most people apenya, dpp is very evil, a devils agent that needs total destruction together with its bed fellow udf. There was a time when Gwanda Chakwamba was giant of the Lower Shire. Tell me if he helped any party to grab powers from the UDF. He was even a candidate of the once mighty MCP but he could not make it. What makes Mia more miraculous than Chakwamba? He will not even stand as a candidate as Gwanda was. This will just make people from the north angry for the discard of their son, Msowoya. Ndaletu zimafunika political mathematics. My brother Chikutumbwe, what makes the future brighter for MCP? Are you really in this country or you are self-exiled… Read more »

Gwanda did not make it because he did not want to work with Tembo. Politics is a game of numbers. For a party to win it must penetrate into other political regions in which the other parties are dominating. DPP won because it managed to penetrate into the Central region and Northern region.

JZU managed to destroy lower Shire giant Ngwanda Chakwamba; and this time Lower Shire is coming back again to MCP with full force. Beware all you who oppose the static leadership of Chakwera. Mia will destroy Kabwira, Jumbe, Kaliwo, Njobvuyalema and the rest of kapilikons for good. He is coming with new type of politics that has not been witnessed in MCP before. Soon or later MCP leadership will be at south.
