Mibawa to host Berita, Lawi Unplugged Session

South African Metro award winner Berita Khumalo and Malawi’s rising Afro Soul sensation Lawi will on Monday treat music lovers in Blantyre to an Unplugged Session.

This one of a kind acoustic music set will be hosted at Mibawa Café, the hub of live music in Blantyre city.

According to Tamanda Mbendera, who is part of the organizing team, this will be an exclusive live collaboration between the two artists and is expected to be recorded live.

Speaking to Nyasa Times, Mbendera described the event as “a vibrant night of African music.”

The Zimbabwe born South African songstress having an African tour, and in Malawi she is expected to have her inaugural show alongside Lawi on Sunday at Crossroads Hotel in the capital Lilongwe.

Earlier this week, it was reported by a South African online newspaper, the Dispatch, that while in Malawi, the 22-year-old Berita, who is currently working on her next album, would be recording a song that she wants to have a Malawian feel.

Nyasa Times has since learnt that the singer is in the studios working on some collaborations with the Malawian Lawi, whose new song ‘Amawona Kuchedwa’ is taking Malawian airwaves by storm.

Berita has also worked with music legends Hugh Masekela and Zimbabwe’s Oliver Mtukudzi on one song on her upcoming album and has done a collaboration with Senegal’s Carlou D.
