A group f traders over the weekend grabbed land  belonging to an Asian  businessman in Malangalanga and shared it among themselves.

But Muluzi in an interview with Nyasa Times said the consequences of “irregularly taking over people’s land” can be grave and disastrous.

He said there are legal procedures of land acquisition, let alone the positive benefits and outcomes of securing land for productive use or investment.

Muluzi, however, disclosed to Nyasa Times that the issue is not new as in 2005 some residents also petitioned the ministry on the same land  but acknowledged that the issue wasn’t resolved .

He said the land is not idle as alleged as the other part of it has been developed since there are new shops that were built by the owner.

A visit by Nyasa Times  at the site on Thursday morning ,found group traders who shared the land on Sunday already developing the plots with some bringing bricks to the site and construction works in progress .

Don’t just condemm the land grab! arrest the offenders and try them and teach the country that we wont have rubbish like this in our country! we have ways of legally doing things!

  2. Mkwejeleta says:

There are procedures we follow when doing things. Whether land is idle for a long time or belongs to a foreigner is not a reason to conduct yourself in that manner. If the owner of that land has papers, then surely you are wasting your resources.

Malawi will be a lawless country if this will be entertained. The owner of the land should warn these people and take action if they insist not to stop. It will be a different case if he has no genuine papers.

Work up guys, don’t waste your resources. Don’t go knocking on the door of Government for protection if the owner comes with a bulldozer tomorrow to demolish with his court ruling on the other hand.

Court also don’t give any of these guys an injunction restraining demolition. Can we please use our conscience coupled with the law when issuing this animal called injunction, sometimes it delays justice. But you know what justice delayed is, ” justice denied”.

Indians have never developed the country fir the benefit or betterment of that country. They are known of stealing the money and goes with into mbombai.
Even social development, to them is a story.
Land we don’t buy, we lease. Have you seen a Malawian owing land in India.
Look south Africa is chasing foreigners, let Indians go to their country. How can it be that all Indians are in the business of shops.
Let the Europeans be allowed and see what they can do

  4. The Truth says:

    @Mjomba

Where have you ever seen a SQUATTER like yourself being compensated by a Government for a structure you built on someone elses land without any Title Deeds to your name for being within the citys jurisdiction?
Seems your ring leader has fooled all of you sewer rats into thinking if you build you will be spared or compensated… We will see who has the last laugh. The owner WILL get his land back, and all of you WILL get nothing. In fact, he is likely to be compensated for the inconvenience to him, because without a Land Siezure Notice from the Minister of Lands, none of you rats had authority to steal his plot. If anything, all of you have succesfully donated bricks to his plot which the courts will say belong to him as they are on his property.
A rat will always be a rat.

NOTE::: A RECENT REPORT LIST MALAWI AS ‘THE RISKIEST INVESTOR DESTINATION IN THE SADC’… THE CULTURE, POLITICS AND PEOPLE ARE DISGUSTING..

Leave politics aside and let love our country, we are already in economic tumor and we need to join hands to assist Government on the best way to develop our country as well as on the best way to attract investors to invest in our country so doing a window for employment will be wide, but this barbaric act of land grabbing will chase investors and Malawi will continue to widen the poverty level as per wish of MCP and PP. I have seen many locals even in our areas failing to develop the houses in which they sleep yet demand for places in town where they will be paying city rates et al on regular basis, so naive, getting instructions from naive masters who yet keep on dreaming to Govern this country one day, oh! God distance them from this thrown so that they die as opposition leaders, people who failed to govern 1000 followers dreaming to govern 16 million people, kkkkkkkkkkk some people are too ambitious.

Bwana minister, i have been following you through all ministries you have saved so far, you have good record, you do things for the betterment of your country, bwana minister you’re very patriotic to your country so don’t let blood stained people disturb your plans, whip these people so that you should see their masters, (use fire to fight fire) because if you use water the fire will dry water and find its way.

You will never walk alone bwana minister, we good manners and want people to follow good procedures. Leave politics aside, sitimadya ndale ife as a country we need to move forward, tizapanga ndale 2019, bwana minister you have my support.

This is a litmus test for Atupele and APM. Bingu could not have allowed this madness. There is no way Bingu could have allowed this madness to happen. Even Amai repossessed land in Area 49 that was illegally grabbed by other people. We will see if these 2 have a back bone. It seems every little thing is crisis to Peter. I don’t know why.

  8. Akibu Asima says:

The ukiti ukiti idiot has condemned the land grab in Lilongwe, has he come up with any solution or way forward to that invasion? Do not just love to talk, talk and talk to seem to be doing your work when in actual fact you are not doing nothing worth the talk. Why let the mwenyes create forests in the city when other people can make use of such pieces of land?

  9. king says:

I overheard vendors in Limbe also planning to grab land behind Kapenga butchery that has remained idle. Government should move in fast before this becomes chaotic and my investigation shows that the land grabbers had secret meeting with MCP and PP to create a situation that will cause tension.

  10. Chambe says:

This is will allow substandard structures erected at the place. Legal action should take place and a court injunction should be granted to stop this nonsense! It will also be a breeding ground for diseases.

    O………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..O
When one acquires land, he/she is expected to develop it within a specified timeframe, failing which; the land is repossessed and resold to those who hunger to develop it.
. . . This is a story of failure on the part of city officials.

    This said . . .
. . . these people need to know that ignorance has never been known before, to lead anyone to anything or something better.
. . . they are wasting their time and other resources “developing” the place when other knowledge should have told them, sooner or later; they will be chased away and scattered like rats caught in the light of darkness.
    ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
    More disheartening is the minister’s reaction . . .
. . . these people are violent and all the minister could do is condemn them (by a word of words)?
. . . Of course we all know that authorities will go by the palaver of the court but which is easier? – to wait for these people to “develop” the place, then go to court to obtain an order to vacate them OR to vacate them now before they even develop the place?
. . . Are we thinking about the emotional harm being caused to the owner, seeing his place sliced and diced like this?
. . . Are we seeing the bigger picture of the outside world looking at Malawi and seeing this chaos? How do we lure investors to Malawi when property rights are undefined?
    ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
I just wish APM was born a man; he would have delt with these people in the most violent way possible, even killing one; so as to warn a hundred.
. . . What these people are doing is violence and we all know that in Africa, you meet violence with violence. When ignorance takes hold of people, they need to be whipped into line sometimes. And I can assure you that this is one of those times.
    O……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..O

  12. mjomba says:

I will develop my portion kwikly so that when the owner of the land goes to Court and succeeds in getting his land back the government will compensate me K20million for my shop! Kumachenjera pa town!!

  13. banda says:

Bwana minister. Enact the land bill to sort out the serious land issues esp. in urban areas. expect more of this if you keep on daydreaming.
