Minister Msaka says Malawi not only country facing blackouts
Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining Bright Saka Sc has said Malawi is not the country which is facing electricity woes, saying all countries in southern Africa are affected and have load shedding programs.
Saka said this in Lilongwe on Sunday at Masintha ground during a political rally which President Peter Mutharika addressed.
“It is not only Malawi that is faced with electricity problems all countries in the southern region are affected. This is so because we were all depending on water generated electricity,” Msaka explained.
Msaka assured that by 2024 all will be well as government has embarked on long and short term measures to end the current electricity problem.
He said the country will generate 2000 mega watts of electricity by 2024 that will help the country have enough electricity to reach out all the household and industries.
Msaka said government has bought 46 mega watts to be installed in all the regions and currently 10 mega watts has already been installed in Lilongwe and are expecting to install another 10 in the same district, 20 and six will be installed in Blantyre and Mzuzu respectively.
He also said other electricity will be produced from coal and companies have already shown interest and soon the projects will start adding that some international companies are also showing their interest.
Msaka then said 70 mega watts would also be bought from solar and that the Kamwamba project and other project are still on.

Koma amalawi why are we letting this guy spout such rubbish? If Msaka cannot see the importance of reliable energy supply, then we have a big problem on our hands. No wonder they do not have a plan nor ambitions nor vision to turn around the fortunes of this country. Who projects such kind of logic of failure and takes comfort in mediocrity? This country is being ruled by idiots who came into government with no ideas and they are really fumbling in the dark. Lets get rid of these jokers, fellow Nyasas. The country needs a total overhaul before… Read more »

Wabodza, Malawi is the only country which is experiencing Blackouts of this magnitude with some areas getting 17 hours a day blackouts. We have heard the story before it will happen after 1 year or 2 years, and things never change infact post independence this is the worst blackouts ever in Malawi. Suprising there are no resginations or sackings for underperformance at Escom or the ministry of Energy.

I have been seen Msaka as one of the sharp civil servant of his time. Unfortunately, he has just exposed his foolishness. Malawi is the only country seriously affected by electricity problems. There is no single problem of electricity in the neighboring Mozambique for example. Other countries as well are not affected as Malawi is. Don’t cheat non-travelling Malawians.
Not true. South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique are not suffering from load shedding and not all are hydro-dependent. South Africa and Botswana are coal-dependent. I don’t see how you could justify 2000 MW by 2024 and how that could be financed in such an economy.
