Minister Mussa says is keen sports enthusiast: Man U fan, holds a taekwondo black-belt

Henry Mussa, who has been named as the new minister responsible for sport in Peter Mutharika’s  reshuffle, has said he is  keen  to develop sports in the country.

In the  cabinet reorganisation, Sports, previously headed by Grace Chiumia now Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, has been moved to Ministry of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development with Henry Mussa retained at as its minister.

Mussa has promised that sports sector would not be affected by the change and called for unity between government, sports council and sports associations.

According to Mussa, he is  a keen follower of sports and that he supports Manchester United football club on English Premiership League. Locally, he is linked to Mighty Be Forward Wanderers.

Mussa, who holds a taekwondo black-belt also said he has history in javelin, discus throwing and basketball.

“I am a keen sports enthusiast,”  he said.

Mussa said sport will have a true advocate in him.

“I intend to introduce a hotline where every Malawian would be free to come up with proposals on how we can address the challenges,” he said, adding that he needs time to come up with his sports development strategy.

“Developing sports in the country is not the responsibility of government or administrators only but all Malawians. We need to come up with workable solutions to improve sports in the country,” Mussa explained.

Mussa said he was equally concerned with the performance of Malawi National Football Team and the netball Queens.
