Ministry of trade officials killed in fatal road crash

Three Ministry of Industry and Trade officials have died in a fatal road accident that occurred on Friday 20th May at Kalinyeke Trading Centre in Dedza district.

The accident occurred along M1 road between the ministry’s vehicle, Nissan double cabin registration MG346AG which had three passengers on board and Iveco van MN 2369.

The driver Innocent Konyani, 36, and two passengers identified as Heather Kachingwe and Muhammad Juma Jawadi, 32, died on the spot due to serious head injuries.

The third passenger,  27 years old Steven Nkasala sustained internal injuries and is currently admitted to Kamuzu Central hospital (KCH).

The Iveco van driver Robert Jakisoni, 36, of Jere village Traditional Authority Kamenyagwaza, Dedza and his male passenger (name not yet known) escaped with minor injuries.

It is reported that Konyani of Magombo village, T/A Mchiramwera, Thyolo while at Kalinyeke Trading Centre, shifted lanes from left to right thereby colliding with in-coming Iveco lorry.

The ministry officials were on their way from Blantyre to Lilongwe.

The ministry vehicle got extensively damaged while the lorry had its front part and windscreen damaged.

I am shocked by the sudden death of Ms.Heather Kachingwe. I worked with her in coordinating a number of training and I am just so shocked. May her Soul Rest in Eternal peace…
