This was disclosed by Sportslinks’ Charles Ulaya on Saturday during the first of the four screening process held at Zomba Community Centre.

Ulaya, one of the founders and pioneers of Weightlifting & Bodybuilding Association, said Sportslinks would like to take bodybuilding to another level to inspire more people to join the sport.

“This is supposed to be a rewarding sport but people shy away from it,” said the former and first president of the sport’s association. “The only way to attract more people to take up the sport is to reward the current participants well.”

The screening process started with Zomba,  then Blantyre at Blantyre Youth Centre on Sunday before dating Lilongwe on July 2 and Mzuzu on July 9.

The body builders were tested by Ulaya himself and Darlingtone Ndasauka as judges on the following techniques; front and back double bicep, front amd back lat spread, sidw triceps, front abdominal thigh, most muscular post and six pack post.

Present was reigning Mr. Malawi, Brown Gondwe, who came all the way from Mangochi and twice former Mr. Zomba Emmanuel Binauli, who is Malawi Defence Force soldier.

Ulaya tipped the contestants to practise more on their technique and to remain focused if they aspire to win the grand prize.

“We pegged the prize of K1 million so that we should witness serious techniques at the championship and also for you to be proud of this sport,” Ulaya said.

“So go back to toir gyms and practise hard because this will be a hard fought for championship.”

Sportslinks is a registered sports marketing company that is geared to be a sports agency, consultant and one to organise tournaments for corporate sponsors.
