More MCP members to quit for PP, claims Majoni and Daza

Former Secretary General of Malawi Congress Party (MCP),  Chris Daza and veteran politician Beston Majoni have claimed that thousands of MCP members will follow them in the ruling People’s Party (PP).

The two politicians were speaking in Lilongwe on Sunday at Kalambo School Ground where President Joyce Banda held a political rally.

Majoni said by next year he will bring quarter million MCP supporters to PP.

“I have a large following from MCP that will follow me in PP,” said Majoni the former kingpin of MCP in the central region during the height of one-party dictatorship.

On his part, Daza also echoed Majoni’s claims, saying a lot of people from MCP will be joining the PP soon and that the coming in of Majoni and himself was just opening the gate-way.

“This is just the beginning, there will be a legion joining this part,” said Daza who was rewarded with a ministerial position after announcing his defection.

He said MCP is facing a crisis of some sort under the leadership of Rev Dr Lazarous Chakwera.

“When people are running away from somewhere it only shows that things are not okay,” he said.
