Mponda makes bold promise of beating Silver: Malawi TNM Super League

Wizard F.C Technical Director Peter Mponda has made a bold promise that his troops will do everything to collect maximum points ontop of former League Champions and wounded Silver Strikers as the two side meet on Saturday at the MDC stadium.

Mponda however admitted it will be a tough match but dropping any point at this stage of the league will be disastrous to his youthful side currently battling for survival in the league.

“It is going to be a difficult game since our friends are fighting for league title while we are fighting against relegation and drawing or losing at this stage will be disaster to us,” Mponda said on Thursday.

The former Flames and Nyasa Big Bullets international defender said the players are working hard and is hoping for great improvement as they host the wounded Bankers who will be looking forward to recover from their 3-2 defeat against Kamuzu Barracks last weekend.

“The boys are aware of how important the remaining games are to us and I hope they will put up a gallant fight. We need the three points more than our opponents,” Mponda explained.

Wizards have been successfull in their last two league games at home beating seventh placed Mzuni FC 2-1 and second placed Kamuzu Barracks.

They uncomfortably sit on position 13 of the 16 member log table with 25 points from 24 games.

Oldest club Civo United are in the relegation zone together with Karonga United as well as MTV Max Bullets who already threw in the towel and are just donating points.

Civo are on unusual 14th position with only 21 points from 21 games while Karonga United are on 15th with the same number of points with 25 games.

Meanwhile. Lilongwe based Police outfit Blue Eagles are leading the log standings with 48 points from 25 games following their 2-1 win over giants Mighty Be Forward Wanderers in a highly contested and tensed match played at the Nankhaka ground on Thursday 24th November 2016.

They dislodged Kamuzu Barracks hours after rising to the top after beating Silver Strikers on Wednesday.

More changes are expected this weekend as league games continues.

Kamuzu Barracks can return to the top if the beat Azam Tigers on Saturday and Mafco can as well match the leaders Eagles on 48 points if K.B loses.

Third placed Nyasa Big Bullets who are the defending champions also stand a chance of going top if they beat Mafco on Sunday and pray that K.B and Mafco flops in all their weekend assignments.

Blue Eagles need to beat Azam Tigers to maintain the top spot as the two teams face each other on Sunday.

It remains unpredictable on who will do what following the stiff competition witnessed by the log table both at the top, middle and bottom of the log table.
