Mr. Malawi Ireland contest set for July 27, launch on June 14

Malawians living in the Republic of Ireland will in July select the first ever Mr. Ireland Malawi 2013.

The “long awaited event of the century”, as described by the organisers is slated for July 27 in Dublin, Bewleys Hotel Ballsbridge.

According to Brian Mwenelupembe, one of the organizers, they decided to introduce ‘Mr. Malawi Ireland’ in order to give Malawian men the chance to represent their country.

Mwenelupembe also said the competition is aimed at providing entertainment, fitness, Malawian fashion and style, knowledge and better understanding of the Malawian history and culture.mr malawi ireland

Speaking to Nyasa Times, he further disclosed that another reason for Mr. Malawi Ireland was to give back to the charities in Malawi.

Said Mwenelupembe: “Giving young children in Malawi the chance to start up a proper life even without parents. Nothing is impossible and everyone deserves a chance.”

“We have targeted a number of charity organisations who assist the Malawian community in Malawi. Our new Mr. Malawi Ireland will work hand in hand with those organisations,” he said.

Another organizer Magga White said some  organisations, which she did not reveal, have already shown interest and are very willing to work with the new Mr. Malawi Ireland.

“It’s really nice to see young Malawian men do something for their country. It is sad to see how all these young Malawian men with rich talents, handsome, physically fit getting wasted in Ireland just because they are not given a chance to showcase their talents at international level.

“We are better than that and it’s about time Malawian men do something with their talents and physique,” she added.

Apart from a crown and trophy, the winner of Mr. Malawi Ireland will go home €500.00 richer while second and third prizes will be €300.00 and €150.00, with consolation prizes for the next two contestants.

The winner will represent Malawi at the International event of Mr. Africa-Ireland to be held later in the year.

To participate in the Mr. Malawi Ireland 2013, candidates should be of Malawian descent, be between 21 years old and above, and have a good knowledge about Malawi.

The contestants will compete in four main challenges, namely Malawian History Challenge, Fashion & Style Challenge, Talent Challenge as well as Strength & Body Physique Challenge before competing at the finals.

“The winner will be chosen at the fashion parade of all our contestants taking place in front of the live audience,” said Loga.

Meanwhile, prior to the main event, the organisers have organized a launch party scheduled to take place on June 14  at Club Nassau  in Dublin

The event will be spiced up by performances from Malawi’s Lulu,  Kyriah Dee, winner of CamFest Ireland 2008, singer and songwriter as well as hip-hop artist Sean Focus.

Mr. Malawi Ireland 2013 organisers are Brian Mwenelupembe (founder), Alinane Harawa, Rockstar Jojo and Magga White.
