Msonda defeated by Kamlepo: Zikhale, Kalaile, Chiume win PP primaries

Some ruling Peoples Party top brass have emerged victorious in primary elections being held in the northern region while others have lost despite spirited campaigns and massive injection of funds.

So far Party vice President Khumbo Kachali (Mzimba South West), Reverend Malani Mtonga (Karonga south), Joseph Mabvuto Kachale (Mzimba Central) have sailed through unopposed.

The ruling People’s Party kick started its primary elections for torch bearers in the parliamentary and local government elections starting with the northern region on December 21.

In total 93 aspirants jostled for the MP seat while 232 vied for the Councillorship.

PP national deputy director of Campaign Zikhale Ng’oma was overwhelmingly voted for the Nkhata Bay South Constituency with 4000 votes against Professor Eta Elizabeth Banda’s 670.

Professor Eta Banda failed to get a Court injunction to stop the primary elections citing unfair practices by Zikhale Ng’oma.

In some of the 17 centres Professor Banda scored a paltry 2 votes.

For instance at Makumbu Zikhale got 205 against 2 votes for the incumbent. At Kalowa Zikhale got 292 and Professor Eta got 40 and at his home Chifira,  Zikhale amassed 594 votes while Professor Eta got 57.

In Nkhata Bay North West, a man who designed and implemented campaign marketing strategies for beleaguered ANC Youth League boss Julious Malema resulting in his triumphant at the 2007 ANC Polokwane in South Africa will be PP candidate in that Constituency.

Dickens Tchuwa of Mzuzu once worked for Julius Malema as a Marketing Consultant for five years.

PP Treasurer General Harry Mkandawire is the party’s torch bearer for Mzimba West after trouncing political novice Joyce Shonga Botha.

While PP deputy spokesperson Kenneth Chitata Msonda lost the Rumphi North East elections to controversial politician Kamlepo Kalua. Other contenders for the same seat were former MBCTV Sports Journalist Saulos Thindwa and Margaret Nyamzia.

In the Mzuzu City Constituency, Bennex Mwamlima knocked prominent businesspersons Leonard Njikho popularly known as Uncle Jose and bar owner Burdens Mfungwe.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mganda Chiume got the people’s nod for the Nkhata Bay North constituency pitying Professor Duncan Misheck and Kanyanga Nyirenda.

In Mzimba Khosolo Constituency, incumbent itinerant MP Rabson Chihaula lost to new comer Ackson Kalaile Banda (AKB).
