Malawi’s business tycoon Leston Mulli has donated a vehicle to the ruling Democratic Progreessive Party (DPP), a move commentators say is a bid to win back political influence and backing from a party that propelled him into riches.
The vehicle is now being used by the newly appointed party regional governor for the south Charles Mchacha.
Mchacha acknowledged he received the vehicle from Mulli describing him as a “well wisher” of the party.
During the elevation of Chief Ngolongoliwa to senior chief, Mchacha told President Peter Mutharika that Mulli is helping the party greatly and cited the donation of the vehicle.
Mutharika did not comment on the matter during his speech.
Mulli and Mutharika fell out after the government pounced on his property for failing to pay a multi-billion debt to Malawi Savings Bank.
He even failed to attend commemorations of Mulhako wa Alhomwe, the first time he had failed to do so in protest against the appointment of the cultural organisation’s chairperson as he wanted his own protege at the helm of the powerful DPP highly connected organisation.
The government however this year offered him contract to distribute farm input products in central region and his companies are distributing free mosquito nets on behalf of the ministry of health across the country.
Mulli was a very close ally and blue eyed boy of former president Bingu wa Mutharika.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
