Music Crossroads Malawi to champion girl participation in arts
Music Crossroads Malawi has revealed plans to rejuvenate Daughters Band as one way of championing girls’ participation in Arts.
Executive Director of Music Crossroads Malawi, Gayighayi Matthews Mfune said, the daughters Band aims to empower girls and young women in the arts industry and promote inclusive participation.
Mfune said the all female band is an inclusive grouping which works with various themes and is a mouthpiece of girl power.
“We hope that we can show and tell the world a good statement about music and inspire young women to conquer the music industry.
“This is a Band composed by very vibrant and professional young girls who are able to play the instruments by girls themselves and we will work hard to achieve inclusive participation in Arts.
Apparently, the Music Crossroads shall always champion the Daughters Band so that it continues to inspire more girls to join the arts industry and be independent.
He added that, “The music industry is fast growing as women from Western Countries have taken the industry by storm and it was only fair that the Nation embraces this change and empower and recognize our women Artists.”
According to Mfune, because the daughters’ band is a concept of the Music Crossroads, they have come up with a movement to help rejuvenate the girls’ band by conducting auditions on Saturday August 20 to enroll new Band members.
The Band plays Afro Jazz, traditional and rock music and it was established in August 2013.
