Muslim Sheik stabbed at mosque by naked man

An identified naked man is being accused of attempted murder after a Muslim cleric was stabbed at a mosque in Nkhotakota.

Police spokesperson of Nkhotakota, Williams Kaponda said Sheikh Namandwa Ainani (57) of Malenga village in the area of senior chief Malengachanzi was early 10 August, 2016 stabbed with a spear as he was to attend morning prayers at Malenga mosque.

As a routine, the Sheik arrived earlier to remind other muslims through the amplified speaker for morning prayers. While there, unknown thug with a spear stabbed the victim.

“He was stabbed by unknown naked person on the back [left shoulder] and the spear protruded on his front left breast,” said Kaponda.

He said police investigations continue.

The shiek is in hospital “critical” but in a “stable” condition.

Kaponda said it is too early to speculate on the circumstances of the stabbings but said there should be no place for this sort of violence in the country.
