Mutharika abolishes ‘One Cow per Family’ programme
Malawi’s new President Peter Mutharika has said he will not continue with the One Dairy Cow per Family’ project which was launched by his predecessor Joyce Banda.
Mutharika said on Sunday that One Dairy Cow per Family’ project has ended “immediately.”
“Zogawa ng’ombe, zogawa nkhuku zitha (we will stop One Dairy Cow per Family’ project),” said Mutharika on Tiuzeni Zoona interview program on Zodiak Broadcasting Station, Sunday.
The project was being coordinated by Presidential Initiative on Poverty and Hunger in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture.
“This will come to a stop, immediately. That is not policy,” said Mutharika.

Malawi’s livestock sector contributes 11 percent of GDP and about 38 percent of agricultural production to the national economy.
