Mutharika made the remarks on New Year’s Day at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre when he hosted a cross section of different religious leaders from southern region to a state banquet in order to celebrate and give thanks to God for His blessings upon the nation and seek more for the New Year.

The President hailed religious leaders for demonstrating total commitment in ensuring that the country move forward in all spheres of development.

“I take this time to appreciate the support and prayers I have received from you all in 2014. When I called for prayers for rains, you received my requests and organized special prayers in your denominations.

“It is therefore encouraging that some parts of the country have been receiving rains. As such we should continue to do so that the whole country should receive good rains and have bumper harvest,” said President Mutharika.

“It is only by doing this that can make Malawi a better place to live with everyone sharing a common vision.” He added.

The Malawi leader further explained that it was through prayers that Malawi managed to breakthrough some of the challenges that rocked the country’s economic sector.

“Though, in the just ended year, we lost lives of many people, houses washed away due to natural calamities, but I must assure you that economically the country is doing well as evidenced by stabilizing of the Malawi Kwacha, control inflation rate among others,” he said.

He then pleaded with all Malawians to exercise patience in ensuring that the country reaches its full potential of transformation.

“These things take time and there is need for patience. Above all, there is need for concerted effort among Government, Civil Society Organizations, Non Governmental Organisations and Religious Institutions to achieve a common goal,” appealed the President.

Commenting on the matter, CCAP Blantyre Synod General Secretary Rev Alex Maulana and Montfort Sitima from Mangochi Diocese hailed the State President for organising the event expressing optimism that God will see the nation through from all challenges it is facing.

While Muslim Association of Malawi President Sheik Chabulika described the event as a greater milestone in as far as enhancing unity among interdenominational leaders was concerned.

The luncheon, the first of its kind since President Mutharika ascended in to the office of presidency was spiced up by prayers meditated in different areas of rains and bumper harvest, economic revival, love and hardworking amongst the citizens among others.-Mana

COWARDICE AND SELLING-OUT YOUR FELLOW NYIKA PEOPLE WILL NEVER LEAD US NOWHERE. IT IS THE DUTY OF EVERY ONE OF US TO EDUCATE OUR PEOPLE TO DISOBEY THIS TRIBALISTIC AND MULHAKO DOMINATED GOVERNMENT. IN THIS UNION OF MALAWI–WE HAVE BEEN SLAPPED WITH DISCRIMINATORY LAWS SUCH AS QUOTA SYSTEM IN EDUCATION, DEVELOPMENTS, AND IN MANY OTHER AREAS. Yes, I agree with papa APm,becasue most of the people involved in cashgate have been aprehended, the money that CSO got from NAC,in the name of CEDEP amounting to K44,863,192.64 has been revealed.Mr Trapence, can you now explain why you took money from NAC.If you do not explain then you are biased and the demonstration you are going to conduct is useless and politically motivated. We all know that somebody is behind you.can we also demonstrate for Joice Banda who is wasting our tax maney out of the country for almost 4months now.

The govt is trying all means to make things right but coz’ of short sight we see nothing eeeish. The govt to deliver needs everyone’s support not just sitting phwiii busy fucking, making unproductive kids at the end waiting for the govt tO provide this bullshit. As far as I know this govt will make Malawi a better place to live not today or nightmare but thru hardwork.so, you must shut up accusing APM and DPP govt.

  22. God Hear Me says:

Ndawerenga all the 23 comments and I would like to remind all those who are against what APM said that Malawi is big and complex Malawi is not only about water in the capital city, NAC, Judicially support staff NO and BIG NO. Malawi is also about you and your families how much have you contributed to the development of your families? The efforts you have have put to develop your families will also contribute to the development of Malawi as a country.

I know you might argue that but we need conducive environment which must be provided by policy yes true but have you suggested any? Apart from kumango lalata basi Shupitiii!!!!

It is high time Malawians tikuyenera kumaganiza critically love one another we vote once in five years hence we shall vote again in 2019 from now on it is time to talk development.

Tiukungo taya nthawi kukonakona instead of putting togather our efforts and work towards the common good. I can assure you azathu azungu samataya nthawi debating about silly and pitty issues NO. They talk development and in England or in Europe in general there is nothing like despising their leaders No. Si zaife a Timoteo Mtambo and friends always fault finding and busy organizing demonstrations.

Civil Societies are supposed to be think tanks for the countries. I have been to many European countries even in busies if the rule is to pay using coins like Euro 2 coin even if you have more money in notes like Euro 50 you get severe punishment because the rule is to pay using coins. But if this can be introduced in Malawi Timoteo Mtambo akhoza kudzuka mmawa mobilising Malawians to demonstrate in the name of Human Rights which Human Rights a Mtambooo fwetseki!!! A malawi timapusitsana bwanji I do not understand!

  30. Denkhule says:

You are very right Peter 2014 was a successful year to you individual. You won as president of the country despite that you were born not a leader. You also married Getrude after gaying for many years. As for our Religious pharisees where money is they will always be drinking and chewing for there will be no such things in hell.

  31. Genuinely speaking,APM is completely insane.

  32. The Truthful One from the West says:

What else can he say but to praise himself. To us objective observers 2014 was a disaster. Malawi is not a normal state where one arm f government- the Judiciary- is completely shut down. This only happens in Malawi.

Insensitive , irresponsible and childish . In the midst of all the miseries that Malawians are going through somebody decides to throw a party really? And the so called religious of ours busy feasting while their flocks cant even afford a cup of tea. What kind of country is this that feast in the midst of economic miseries that Malawians are going through?. I expected our so called religious leaders to be a little bit sensible and sensitive. “NO thanks” could have been human and moral reply to the invitation. Atleast you religious this is what expected from you as from Peter I am not surprised as he simply does not understand anything Malawian and he is so clueless

  43. chakwanuleka says:

If the situation prevailing in the country can be described as successful, then we have all the reasons to be very worried.

  44. Professor CJ says:

If the definition of success is what Malawi went through in 2014, then I think Peter is the defination just for being elected president.

For you, few and greedy public servants, who feel you can get wages like you are in Denmark or Germany, forgetting that you are amongst the same pipo who stole big monies from government under Cashgate banner…What do you want to tell us? Everybody is feeling the pinch of the looting caused by you, and today you want to be given more money for what. Leave the economy to improve or just get out of the salaried job and start something better!!!

  51. Wishy says:

I guess APM has a different meaning of “Success” and if he is describing 2014 as a successful year with a lot of hurdles in our country I don’t thing we should expect anything good from him.

Oh may he is calling it a successful year for himself coz he won elections! However I can not call it a successful year where courts have not been operating for almost two months now and the leadership is doing nothing. Civil Servants still getting salaries pa 42, Colleges closed like gloceries…

  52. yotam says:

    Sounds good and positive Malawi.
