Mutharika leaves for UN summit in New York

Malawi President Peter Mutharika on Sunday is headed for the UN General Assembly to be held in New York, United States, a presidential spokesman has said.

State House Press Secretary Frederick Ndala, the plane carrying President Mutharika is expected to take off from Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) at 2.00 pm in Lilongwe.

UNGA is an annual event that draws Heads of States of all UN member countries across the globe and during the event; a number of issues affecting the globe are tabled and resolved.

There are also side-meetings at ministerial and civil society level that are held during the UN annual event.
