Kumwenda who won several individual accolades in 2015 believes the IWGA award comes as a motivation as she gears up for a new season in New Zealand where her team Tactix plays in the ANZ league.

The netball superstar said her mission is slowly becoming into reality and the IWGA award is a clear indicator of making her dream come into reality.

She said more is yet to come from her as she prepares for the ANZ league expected to throw off in April.

“I feel excited to win the IWGA award. It’s an honour to me. I think it is through the support I receive from all over the world that made me the winner. I have come through better coaches since my early days back home up to where I am. My family and friends have played a great role too in my career. I am a hard worker and will continue to do that because I have hunger for more’, said Kumwenda.

The MBC innovations award winner also believes her recent achievement should help to motivate other girls realize their dream. She said girls back home have enormous potential to reach greater heights.

“Malawi has great potential. We have girls who only require a push to reach this potential. The best thing is to get the right people around and stay positive to your dream,” she said

And commenting on Kumwenda’s recent achievement, Kukoma Diamonds Coach Griffin Saenda who identified Kumwenda in her early days described the Malawi Queens shooter as a living legend in netball.

He said Kumwenda had potential to make it big in the sport and through her dedication and hardworking spirit she has come to realize her dream.

“I still regard Mwai as my daughter considering how I strived to motivate her in early days. She is a type of an athlete who can be liked by any top netball coach because of the qualities she has. She used to train very hard and was inspirational to her team-mates. I am not surprised for what she has achieved in the game so far. I believe she has a lot to offer to the world”, said Saenda.
