Mwenefumbo: Journalists should report what their MPs are doing in parliament

According to Mwenefumbo, journalists should be familiar with how the MPs especially from their respective district conduct deliberations in the Parliament.

“This is my own initiative, my aim is to make sure that journalists especially in my district are familiar with what happens in the Parliament,” said Mwenefumbo.

According to the independent MP, it is not good for the journalists to write only what they hear but also what they see.

“This is just the begging, I will be doing this till all journalists in Karonga know what happens in the Parliament,” he added.

Karonga Press Club (KPC) chairperson who is also the Capital FM reporter Norbert Mzembe commended Mwenefumbo for the initiative.

He said this has been the first initiative since the formulation of KPC.

“The good thing is that he did not only consider only national media houses in the district but also the community based news organisations,” said Mzembe.

KPC chair therefore urged other MPs to follow Mwenefumbo footsteps.

Some of the journalists attended the function included Nyasa Times Karonga bureau chief Tiwonge Kumwenda, Ludoviko Nyirenda (Radio Dynasaul), Chindikani Gondwe (Tuntufye fm) both community radios, Mzembe (Capital FM radio), veteran journalist Special Absalom (Radio Islam).

this is quite interesting as many people thinks MPs in parliament do not discuss productive issues. it is therefore indispensable to involve Journalists in all parliamentary issues if we are to have good political stories. and this will also act as (access to information bill)
