Mystery over Zomba Central PP primary results as Nangozo celebrates victory

Aspiring People’s Party (PP) female candidate for Zomba Central Constituency Patricia Kainga Nangozo on Monday took to the streets in Zomba Town with her followers in celebration that she has triumphed during the primary elections.

The procession which snaked its way through the streets of Zomba had blaring horns from a number of vehicles that carried the chanting supporters during the celebrations. Kainga Nangozo clad in PP colours waved the people from an open vehicle and received a dignified ovation from drivers at Zomba Taxi Rank.

This is in contrast to other news that the withheld results for the constituency have not been officially announced by the responsible authorities.

Kainga Nangozo was tipped to have won the elections which were held on Saturday but her contestant Joseph Chikwemba who is also PP deputy administrative secretary challenged the results and described them as not free and fair.

Speaking in an interview with Nyasa Times, Chikwemba said there is going to be re-run of the primary elections this Saturday and described the celebrations by Kainga Nangozo as a mere gimmick.

“It is just one of those things. Never mind them because there is going to be a re-run of the whole thing on Saturday,” he said.

Chikwemba said he was confident of being PP candidate for Zomba central constituency by any means necessary.

PP secretary general Paul Maulidi is alleged to have said the results for Zomba Central Constituency are still under investigation and that chances maybe either a re-run or declaring Kainga Nangozo the winner depending on the outcome of the investigation process.

Other primary elections under dispute are that of Zomba-Nsodole where Jennifer Chilunga is reported to have won but impeccable sources claim that there is also going to be a re-run this weekend.
