Mzuzu University (Mzuni) FC continued its superb form to beat Moyale 3-2 in an entertaining Mzuzu city derby in TNM Super League match played on Sunday.
Mzuni FC started the Super League championship campaign on a low note having collected three points out of four games.
On Sunday, the students opened the score sheet 7 minutes into the first half through their striker Niyikiza Aimable before Moyale Barracks equalized 31st minute.
Mzuni were on the lead again in the 37th minute when striker Pilirani Ndhluli planted home a beautiful goal.
At interval, the students led 2-1.
Mzuni stamped their authority in the game when they scored a third goal 65 minutes into the second half to frustrate the soldiers.
They soldiers tried to cancel the lead but Mzuni defence remained robust to keep the attacks on bay.
After the final whistle there were wild scenes of celebrations from students to the annoyance of the soldiers.
The win against Moyale has seen the students move up 8th position on 6 points from 5 games, above Moyale, Kamuzu Barracks, Silver, Epac, Airborne rangers, Civo and Surestream
Mzuni FC chairperson Albert Harawa praised his side for “brilliant performance.”
Harawa said the students “deserved the win” in the Mzuzu derby.
Moyale FC team manager Lieutenant Herbert Msowoya said his side lacked “offensive quality.”
The students earned what Msowoya describes as a “deserved victory”.
