Prince Wasili, an official from the prison has since asked for fumigation chemicals to avert a possible outbreak of the airborne disease that would affect close to 800 inmates.

“The situation is very dangerous now, any outbreak would be disastrous,” he said.

The prison, one of the oldest in the country, was designed to accommodate 200 inmates but it has a population of 720.

Wasili therefore asked for support to construct two more cell blocks ease congestion in the current cells.

In  addition, Wasili said, the prison needs a brick fence for security reasons.
