Mzuzu United turns into whipping boys, loses to Tigers: Malawi TNM Super League
After being hammered 5-0 against Big Bullets on Saturday, Mzuzu United were a punching bag again on Sunday as they went down 0-3 to Azam Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium in the TNM Super League, making their journey to the commercial capital a miserable one.
The Mzuzu based out-fit gave false hoped as they kicked off the match on a promising note, hitting the wood work twice through Mada Kaonga and Peter Katsonga.
However, Tigers responded positively with two goals in 3 minutes with Malumbo Gondwe being the first to open the floodgates before Clement Ng’ombe.
Despite trailing, Mzuzu United were not that bad as they tried to exchange good passes especially through their man of the match and captain Lazarous Nyakamera.
Nyakamera won hearts of spectators for his confidence on the ball and passes. He earned a nick-named of Mr. Football.
In the last 45 minutes, Tigers pressed hard on the visitors until they find the third goal which was scored by Isaac Kaliati.
Mzuzu United were just unlucky to kiss the back of Azam Tigers net as twice Bashir Maunde was forced to clear the ball on the goal line.
Tigers coach Leo Mpulula said despite the win, it was not a walk-over.
“Mzuzu United is a better side but the best team won. We will make sure to continue with the winning streak,” said Mpulula.
Mzuzu United vice team manager George Sumaili hailed his boys for putting up a gallant fight and vowed to come back with new ideas in their next game.
